In one of Afghanistan's most turbulent years, educator Ustad Mohammad Hashim opens a single room dedicated to teaching. With no funding, no institution, and no certainty — only conviction — he begins the work of educating those around him. This is the birth of Fanoos: a lantern of knowledge in a time of darkness.
Phase One: The Foundation
The single classroom grows. Students arrive daily, drawn by the promise of learning. Ustad Mohammad Hashim teaches with whatever materials he can find — handwritten notes, borrowed books, and an inexhaustible belief in the transformative power of education. The room becomes a community anchor.

Word of the teaching reaches neighboring areas. Families walk hours to bring their children. The mission expands beyond the original room, reaching into communities that have never had access to formal education. Education becomes truly mobile. Lessons are taught in streets, in open fields, under trees, and in makeshift shelters. Ustad Mohammad Hashim proves that knowledge does not require infrastructure — it requires only a teacher with purpose and students with hunger for learning. The mission reaches its widest scope.

The Reawakening
Mujtaba Hashimi — Ustad Mohammad Hashim's son, now an American technologist, educator, business leader, and computer scientist — takes up his father's mantle. Armed with the tools of the modern era, he begins rebuilding Fanoos Academy as an AI-powered education platform. The mission is reborn: education beyond borders, powered by technology, guided by legacy.

Fanoos Academy stands at the intersection of heritage and innovation.
